KT18 · racecourse, Tattenham Corner and Langley Vale
Up on the chalk, the roads are fast, the verges are flint and the hills are steep. We cover the whole of the Downs, from the racecourse to Langley Vale and Burgh Heath Road.

Overview
Epsom Downs sits on the North Downs chalk upland, high enough to see central London on a clear day and exposed enough that the weather up here is genuinely different from the town below. It is best known for Epsom Downs Racecourse at KT18 5LQ, home of the Derby, reached from Junction 9 of the M25 and the B290 Epsom Downs Road.
For tyres, the geology matters. Chalk downland means flint, and flint is sharp. Verges, gateways, gallop crossings and the edges of the unmade tracks around Langley Vale and Walton Downs throw up flint fragments that go through a tyre far more readily than the average bit of road grit.
The other local factor is gradient and exposure. The roads up from the town centre climb steeply, the Downs get frost and ice before Epsom does, and on race days traffic and parking transform the whole area for a day.

Local reviews
Picked up a flint in the sidewall parking on the verge near the gallops.
Called at half past nine at night with a flat on Langley Vale Road. Twenty minutes and he was there.
Two new tyres fitted on the drive. Explained why the deeper ones should go on the back, which nobody has ever bothered to tell me before.

On the quieter Downs roads and in the car parks, yes.
Yes, and up here they make more sense than they do in the town. The Downs are higher and more exposed, and get frost and ice before Epsom does.
